Maharashtra Students stuck in Kota start their journey back

In a bid to bring back the students stuck in Kota due to the lockdown, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has sent 76 of its buses on Thursday afternoon. Close to 1,800 students are stuck at Kota in Rajasthan.

Kota is one of the education centres of the country, especially for engineering students and over the years, it has emerged as a coaching hub for students wanting to crack ultra-competitive exams such as IIT JEE, JEE and NEET. The students from all over the country from the age group of 11 to 18 years go to Kota to undergo rigorous exam preparations at the various coaching institutes across the city.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had held a conversation with Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot in regards to bringing back students that have been stuck there. Post this discussion, State Transport Minister Anil Parab had announced that the students would be brought back to Maharashtra in ST buses and 76 buses from Dhule depot have already left for Kota.

After their return to Maharashtra, the students would undergo medical examination and segregation. The students are expected to arrive in one or two days in Maharashtra. Once the students are back in the state, the buses will also help them reach their homes by dropping them in their respective districts.

The students have thanked Uddhav Thackeray as well as Ashok Gehlot for taking measures to ensure their safe return to their homes.

Meanwhile, the state government has also taken measures to ensure that the ST bus drivers have necessary sanitation items and have arranged for places for their resting throughout the journey.

There are also measure being taken by the state to help migrant labour stuck in various parts of the state to reach their homes safely. The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a notice allowing the movement of stranded people to their homes, the Maharashtra government will ask the concerned states to bear the cost of transporting their migrants back home.
