Residents of Worli Koliwada in Mumbai have been facing frequent and irregular power outages for over a month, leading to growing frustration among locals.
Over the past three days, electricity supply has reportedly been disrupted for more than five hours every night, severely affecting daily life. Residents have lodged repeated complaints with the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) and municipal authorities, alleging that no concrete action has been taken so far.
Locals have also blamed ongoing unauthorised constructions in the area for putting additional strain on the power infrastructure. A resident claimed that increased load on old wiring and connections due to such developments is causing repeated disruptions.
Responding to the issue, a deputy engineer from the BEST department in Worli said that technical faults were identified at two locations, and power supply had to be temporarily suspended for repair work. While officials denied continuous outages for three days, they acknowledged that increased electricity usage during summer and added load from construction activities have impacted the system.
Residents say the outages, especially at night, are making it difficult to rest. Some have also complained about poor response from BEST offices, alleging they are forced to make repeated visits without resolution.
Angry over the situation, locals have warned of protests and are demanding immediate action from authorities to resolve the issue.
