In Mumbai, almost eight to nine people die every day in train mishaps. However, no fatal incident or death involving passengers was reported on June 26 on the city’s suburban rail service. The Mumbai local rail network is used by nearly eight million people.

According to the data provided by Government Railway Police (GRP), there were zero cases of mishaps or deaths on the Mumbai local rail network on June 26. However, on the same day, nearly 11 commuters were injured in various incidents on the suburban railway network. 

Almost 2,800 local train services are operational every day on the Mumbai railway network which accommodates nearly 80 lakh commuters. The most deaths were recorded on September 8, 2016, when nearly 18 commuters were reported dead due to mishaps.

The fatal incidents on suburban rail service happen due to the trespassing of railway tracks, boarding and alighting in running trains and while violating the safety norms.
