Mutton rates likely to go up

Deonar – The BMC has planned to increase 25 per cent charges in various fees at Deonar abattoir. The fees for keeping animals in a shelter, their slaughter, transport of meat etc will be increased as a proposal in this regard will be tabled before the standing committee on December 8. If the proposal gets nod, the prices of meat is likely to go up in the city. As the maintenance cost of Deonar abattoir is increasing, the BMC has taken the decision to increase various fees for its services at the abattoir. No such charges were increased after 2010. This proposed hike in fees is likely to fetch the civic body revenue of Rs 2.90 crore.
