India Women’s Cricket coach Tushar Arothe resigned from the position after he was unable to continue the duty due to alleged differences with some of the celebrated players in the team regarding his training methods.

Previously, India Men’s head coach - Anil Kumble - too had resigned after his much-known differences with skipper Virat Kohli. The resignation of Arothe is the second instance in the CoA tenure where the national coach has resigned in response to variances of opinions with players.

The BCCI on Tuesday accepted India women's team coach Mr. Tushar Arothe's resignation. Mr. Arothe cited personal reasons behind his resignation and thanked the BCCI for giving him an opportunity to work with the Indian women's cricket team," the BCCI said in a media release.

But a senior BCCI official stated that Arothe was made to resign after some senior players wanted his immediate removal:

“It was almost final after the last meeting of CoA with the senior players. BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhary, GM (Cricket Operations) Saba Karim and CEO Rahul Johri were also present. There has been adverse reports about his coaching methods from players, selectors and even the team manager,” a senior official who chose to be anonymous, told PTI.

Arothe, who played for Baroda, had led the team in the 50-over World Cup final in England last year. After that, the team had also won the ODI and T20 series in South Africa in February this year but ever since that things haven’t been merry for the team. The team had a dull T20 tri-series against Australia and England in India. Following that, they also lost the ODI series against Australia.

However, defeats against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup twice, including the loss in the final was the last nail in the coffin.

Arothe’s training approach was one of the primary reasons behind discontent amongst players as the former coach was keen on having two sessions of two and a half hour twice in a day and some of the senior players in their 30s found the training, ‘a bit vigorous’.

A BCCI official stated that they will put up an advertisement again and an interview will follow it.
