The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is planning a new cricket academy based on international standards that will soon open for aspiring players from Mumbra and nearby areas of Thane. It will be built on a five-acre plot near the Maulana Abul Kalaam Azad TMC Stadium. The existing stadium was inaugurated in 2017.

The proposed academy will include modern facilities such as a cricket ground modelled after Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. It will also have a tennis court, dressing rooms, a swimming pool, and a gym.

The academy will offer free training to skilled cricketers from the region who wish to play in Ranji, national, or international tournaments but cannot afford expensive academies in Mumbai and other cities.

Mumbra-born, Yaseen Sheikh has already been taking part in the under-19 player Mumbai Ranji squad. MCA hopes that this new facility will help produce many more talented players like him.

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has also approved the project and leased the land to the MCA for INR 7.5 crore. The MCA has already spent INR 40 lakh on registration. As per sources, the bhoomipujan ceremony will be held soon.

As per reports, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde granted the required clearances last week. However, the completion date for the project has not yet been announced. The idea of a cricket academy has reportedly been in the works for the past 20 years.
