Mumbai Indians becomes the first team to qualify for the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL) Playoffs with a  55-run win over Gujarat Giants at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday.

For the second time, MI defeated GG and recorded its fifth successive win this season to ensure its spot in the knockouts.

GG won the toss and chose to field. MI, led by Harmanpreet Kaur managed a commanding 162 for eight despite its slow start. Skipper Harmanpreet made 51 runs making it a third half-century of the season. In the last 10 overs, MI amassed 98 runs in the last 10 overs and  set up a superb finish.


The top three teams will go for the Playoffs, while the league stage leader will proceed directly to the final. The second and third-placed teams will play in the eliminator that will take place on March 24.

Delhi is standing at the second spot with eight points while UP Warriorz is at  third with four points after four games. Gujarat is at two points from five games while Bangalore remains winless.

The final will be held on March 26 at the Brabourne Stadium
