Police officials in Malad, on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, arrested a repairman, Vivek Pandey, after an incident was reported at Kaveri society in Malad. As per reports, an 11-year-old was killed after being trapped in the lift which was being repaired by Pandey.

The deceased, Atharva Sharma, had returned from his Grandmother’s home to his residence in Malad, where the lift was being repaired on the seventh floor of the building. Repairman Pandey had not put a notice regarding the same and no other official was there to inform the residents and stop them from using the lift. Upon reaching the residence, Atharva called for the lift, which opened on the ground floor. He opened the collapsible door, and before his brother, Kaushik (21), could pull him back, the lift dragged Atharva, and stopped at a point, where his body jammed lift’s further movement.

Upon knowing the same, the security guard rushed to the top floor to stop the repair work. Atharva was rushed to the nearby hospital for immediate treatment, however, was declared dead on arrival.

Police informed that Atharva was trying to enter the lift when it suddenly started moving upstairs. The accused repairman, Pandey, did not put any sign at any of the floors, nor was assisted by any member to inform the residents. A case has been registered against him IPC section 304 for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Further investigations are underway.

Atharva’s mother was informed about the incident and is said to be inconsolable.
