Despite several warnings, people still risk their lives by clicking selfies near the sea. There are many incidents, where people have lost their lives by drowning while clicking a selfie. One such incident took place at Marine Drive, where a 12-year-old boy drowned while allegedly taking a selfie. Apparently, the boy had gone to Marine Drive to celebrate Eid but didn’t inform his parents.  

Deceased 12-year-old Altaf Shaikh resided in Trombay. On Saturday morning, in order to celebrate Eid, Altaf woke up early and visited a mosque. His parents saw him last with his friends nearby their locality. Later, he went missing.

When he didn’t return home till evening, his father registered a missing complaint with the Trombay police. Later, the family learned that a child of Altaf’s age had drowned off Marine Drive.

Altaf’s uncle, Sadik Shaikh, informed that the family was shown photographs of three children and Altaf was one of them. After identification, the family members were sent to GT Hospital where they found out that Altaf died due to drowning.

Marine Drive police registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and handed over Altaf’s body to his parents after a post-mortem.
