A 15-month old girl was assaulted by her aunt in Mumbai. The victim's mother would leave her daughter under the care of the aunt. The 23-year old mother filed a police complaint after finding out about the assault through a camera phone set up by the victim's parents.

While addressing the media, police said that initially, when the mother found bruises on her child's body, she inquired about it to her family members. They said she might have fallen from the bed, but the mother did not believe them since the victim would get hurt when her mother wasn't around.

When discussed with her husband, he said that once he had witnessed someone pushing the daughter's hand, suspicion grew in her mind.

The husband witnessed this when he was on a video call with her; he saw a hand pushing her from behind. Post that; he asked his wife to set up a camera one day.

On Tuesday, September 14, they switched on the camera and went to the bathroom. The victim was sleeping in another bedroom, and suddenly they heard her cry. They rushed to her and saw her bleeding. The mother consoled her, and they saw the video recording wherein the victim's aunt was seen thrashing her with slippers.

The parents then approached the police station and filed a complaint in Naya Nagar police station at Mira Road.

In the probe, they learned that the aunt had been assaulting their daughter for the past six months as she wanted the couple to leave the house so she could occupy the flat.
