Mumbai- Two smugglers were booked by Mumbai police after they were caught red-handed by the Customs officials with gold bars at Mumbai International Airport on Saturday.
Custom officials seized gold biscuits from two different persons. Custom officials intercepted one passenger - Naresh Sudhamo Matta who had arrived from Dubai by an Emirates flight # EK 502. Custom officials seized 6 cut pieces of gold bars totally weighing 1698 grams valued at Rs. 51,52,000/- (market value), cleverly concealed in a specially tailored vest having 10 pockets with zips, worn by the passenger.
Another passenger Jeetendra Kumar Khilnani who arrived from Bangkok by a Jet Airways flight # 9W 69 was having 2 cut pieces of gold bars totally weighing 400 grams valued at Rs. 12,13,600/- (market value) cleverly concealed in the toes of socks worn by him. A case was booked against both the smugglers.
Both the above passengers from Ulhasnagar are frequent fliers and their past involvement in similar offenses are being looked into.
Starting this month (Feb 2017) AIU, CSI Airport, Mumbai Customs have seized a total quantity of 13 kg gold valued at Rs. 39526952/- till date.
