On Sunday morning, September 19, a murder accused in Taloja jail as an undertrial allegedly escaped the prison by jumping and scaling off the 25-feet high perimeter wall.

Reportedly, another prisoner also attempted to escape in a similar way but was however caught by the jail staffers.

The Kharghar police have lodged an FIR against the two prisoners. They are on the lookout for the one who escaped.

The Bhandup police had arrested the 27-year old escaped prisoner in 2018 for allegedly killing a 17-year old collegian. He was in Taloja jail since the time he was arrested and booked under the charges of murder.

According to the reports, the captive and his other inmate went to the jail hospital on the pretext of getting medicines after midnight on September 18.

Both of them then approached the watchtower that had a 7 feet high grill gate. The guard had taken a break during that time. The prisoner jumped the gate of the tower and then reached the perimeter wall. After managing to scale the wall, he jumped outside.

However, his other inmate, who managed to scale the wall, could not jump because he got frightened.

While addressing the situation, the authorities said that they have tightened the security inside and around the jail. Nearby police stations have also been informed about the accused.

They have registered an FIR under section 224 (Resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension) and 511 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
