Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) on Monday night, February 22, sealed five bars, including two orchestra bars, in the city for violation of Covid safety norms.
A team that visited the facilities spotted visitors and staff not following social distancing and many were not wearing masks. The team, headed by Municipal Commissioner Dr Vipin Sharma, recorded the situation and subsequently took action.
Despite appealing residents and owners of commercial units including restaurants and bars to adhere to safety norms in the wake of rising COVID-19 cases, they do not follow them. Hence, the civic body has intensified its drive now, said a civic official.
A total of five bars, including two orchestra bars under Naupada Ward Committee and Majivada Manpada Ward Committee, were raided. Shilpa Bar on LBS Road in Naupada Ward Committee was sealed by Assistant Commissioner Pranali Ghonge under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Ashok Burpalle. Assistant Commissioner Anuradha Babar has sealed the TRP Lounge, Pope Tates and Mizo at Hiranandani Estate along with the Sun City Orchestra Bar at Kapurbawdi under the Majivada Manpada Ward Committee.
