The statistics show that there has been a drastic reduction in the number of cases registered in the State Bribery Prevention Department for taking bribes. This year, the Anti-Corruption Department has registered 713 cases of corruption in the state. Nashik recorded the highest number of crimes while Mumbai surprisingly recorded the lowest number of crimes. Out of 713 cases, 678 cases are actually related to accepting bribes while 31 cases are related to collection of unaccounted wealth.
In 678 cases of bribery in the state, 993 persons were arrested and a bribe amount of 3 crore 18 lakh rupees was seized. In this, most of the bribe takers belong to the revenue department and 252 people were arrested in 180 cases. Below this comes the rank of police (137). 62 in the first class, 101 in the second class, 510 and 47 in the third and fourth class respectively and 104 other bribe takers are included.
In 2014, 1316 cases of corruption were registered in the state. Since then, the number of crimes has decreased every year. 1279 crimes were reported in 2015, 1016 in 2016, 925 in 2017, 936 and 891 in 2018 and 2019 respectively. In 2020, there was a drastic reduction in the number of crimes registered during the Corona period. At that time also 663 crimes were registered. 773 crimes were reported in 2021, 749 in 2022 and 812 crimes in 2023 last year. This information is available on the Anti-Corruption Department website.
Maximum 152 crimes have been registered in Nashik and action has been taken against 234 people. Pune ranks below that. In Pune, action has been taken against 223 people in 149 cases of actual bribery.
