On Monday, August 17, a Mumbai-based real estate developer, Abdul Munaf Shaikh, was on his way for prayer at the Irla Masjid in Juhu, when he was killed. As per reports, the 55-year-old was resident of Andheri West and was stabbed to death at 6 am. It is said that a man, wearing a cap, attacked him from behind while Shaikh was on his way mosque.

A report has been filed at the Juhu police station and officials have detained three suspects. A case of murder has been registered and officers seized CCTV cameras to identify the accused, based on which it was revealed that the unidentified man slit Shaikh's throat and stabbed him multiple times on back, head, chest and stomach.

Sheikh was rushed to Cooper Hospital for treatment, however, doctors declared him dead on arrival. Juhu police and Crime Branch 9 police are investigating the matter. The incident has also caused a sense of panic in the area. Further, officials have also identified that Shaikh was a member of the trust in the same mosque.

As per reports, Shaikh always had a security guard with him when he was out of the house, but on Monday, no one was with him at the time, and the accused took advantage of this opportunity. Sheikh was one of the renowned developers in Mumbai and was currently working on an SRA project in the city.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 9), Abhishek Trimukhe, told Hindustan Times that the killer was identified and booked under IPC section 302  for murder. However, he is on the run. Many angles are being explored in the investigation, and officers have detained three men. One of the three is the son of a man who was unhappy with his father selling land, at a cheap rate, to Shaikh in 2010. As per reports, he had threatened Shaikh several times.

One of Shaikh's relatives has also stated that he had filed a complaint at the DN Nagar Police with regards to someone following him over the last few days, during the same hours, however, no action was taken by the officials regarding this matter.
