In an effort to curb black marketing and misuse of railway tickets, the Central Railway’s Security Force (RPF) has intensified action against brokers involved in black marketing.

RPF has stepped up the campaign against the complaints received about the exploitation of e-tickets and reserved berths in special trains using multiple personal IDs.

The RPF team has also conducted raids based on data received from cyber cell and other intelligence. These raids were carried out on all the five divisions -- Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Solapur and Bhusawal -- of Central Railway.

It has come to light that in the last one year, railway police have seized tickets worth INR 2.78 crores.

In the year 2020, Central Railway has registered 466 ticket black marketing cases under the provisions of the Railways Act. A total of 14,343 tickets were seized, including 14,065 e-tickets and 278 window tickets.

Out of the total 466 cases registered, 253 cases have been registered in Mumbai division. A total of 7,002 tickets worth INR 1.43 crores were seized, which includes 139 counter tickets including 6,863 live e-tickets have been seized from the accused. In this, 262 persons were arrested in Mumbai ticket black marketing.

A special police force is currently blacklisting those user IDs and cancelling the tickets that were booked using them. All the softwares used to carry out such operations are being investigated, said an official.
