Actress Manava Naik files a complaint against an Uber driver for harrasment and molestation

In a recently reported incident, popular Marathi actress Manava Naik has filed a complaint with the police against Mohammed Murad, an Uber driver, for allegedly misbehaving and molesting her on Saturday, October 15, 2022.

As per reports, the incident took place between Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and Suman Nagar Flyover, Chembur and details regarding the same were shared by the actress on Twitter basis which the driver was arrested in the evening on Sunday, October 16, 2022.

Sharing her experience, she wrote, “I took uber at 8.15pm. the uber driver started talking on phone. At BKC signal he jumped the signal.He started arguing. I intervened. He got angry.  Said..' Tu bharegi kyaa 500 rupe'? The uber driver started threatening me..”

“'rukh tereko dikhata hoo' He then tried to stop the uber in a dark spot in bkc. I said police station chalo. He began to call someone. I started yelling.  2 bike riders and 1 rickshaw guy cornered the uber. Stopped it and got me out of the car.”

She also shared the photo of the driver along with the vehicle number MH 476 AD 4513.

In response to the complaint, Uber released a statement that said that the platform doesn’t have any place for such incidents calling it deplorable. Terming the community guidelines and safety matters, the statement mentioned that the concerned team has connected with the provider and his service from Uber has been terminated immediately. “This violates our community guidelines that uphold safety for all. Our team has already connected with the rider to provide support and the driver’s access to the Uber app has been removed,” the statement said.

Many of her fans also shared their concerns and replied to the post. Furthermore, the police has taken action and registered a case under sections 354 for molestation and sections of the motor vehicles act which stands for talking on the phone while driving, jumping signals, and more.

Thanking the police for their swift action, Naik also said, “Mumbai police have promptly taken cognisance of incident that took place yesterday with me. FIR has been lodged and the accused has been summoned.”

She mentioned that had it not been for the concerned citizens, anything could have happened to her. “I was scared and it wasn’t even late at night. The driver was in his twenties and dared to threaten a woman travelling alone,” she said.
