Not the first in burglary cases in Mumbai, a 32-year-old man allegedly tried to enter the residential flat of actress Saiyyesha Saigal who also happens to be the grandniece of veteran actor Dilip Kumar.
The accused, Dilip Das, is a Bengaluru resident according to the Khar police. He reached the actress’s apartment in a housing colony on Nargis Dutt Road, located at Pali Hill, on Thursday morning at 5:30 am by hoodwinking the bodyguard.
On reaching, Das went straight to Saigal’s residence on the 12th floor, lying to the guard that he wants to go to the fourth floor. Luckily, Saigal was not at home then. Das tried to barge into the house as soon as her uncle answered the door. The actor's uncle tried to stop him, managed to close the door. He then called the security guard and also the police control room. Within no time, a police jeep was sent to the spot and the intruder was arrested.
CCTV footage from the concerned vicinity has been collected by the police. The police have also recorded the statements of the security guard and Saigal’s family. An FIR has also been registered for the same, under section 452 (House-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code.
The accused was summoned before the magistrate court and remanded to judicial custody. He was later granted a cash bail of INR 20,000.
