French national Patrick Brilliant (57) and the trustee of  Andheri, was arrested by MIDC police for sexually assaulting a three-year-old kindergarten student in the trustee's office.

The untoward incident took place in December 2016

On May 7, 2017, the distraught parents of a three-year-old student went to MIDC police station and filed a complaint against the trustee for sexually assaulting their child last year, December. The complaint was filed after the victim’s mother saw marks on her private parts. When she asked her daughter about it, she narrated the incident where she mentioned that the trustee assaulted her in his cabin. Her parents then took her to a doctor where a medical examination detected injuries to her private parts, after which the parents approached the police to file an FIR.

When the complaint was registered, Brilliant was not in Europe and was not in the country. Though he returned a month later, he was picked up for an interrogation but was not arrested.

Parents filed a petition to expedite the matter

After seeing the slow response, the parents filed a writ petition in Bombay High Court alleging that police are not serious about the matter. On November 1, the HC directed police to reinvestigate the case and ACP (Meghwadi division) Milind Khetle was appointed as the investigating officer on November 2.

Finally, the accused was put behind the bars

Police officials picked up the accused late on Monday night and was questioned at length after which he was arrested early on Tuesday. On the same day, he was produced in the sessions court, Dindoshi, after which he was remanded to police custody till November 11.
A case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), and section 376 (2) of IPC.
