In recent developments, Partho Dasgupta, former CEO of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India has claimed that Arnab Goswami, Republic TV Editor-in-Chief, had paid him nearly INR 50 lakhs spread out over three years in exchange for his help to manipulate the television rating point or TRP.

The former CEO of BARC was earlier arrested by the Mumbai Police on December 24. He was in police custody till December 31, after which he was remanded to judicial custody for two weeks. As per reports, Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Shishir Hirey had opposed the bail plea for the State, arguing that Dasgupta had misused his position as CEO of BARC for personal gain.

On January 11, Mumbai Police filed the 3,600-page supplementary charge sheet which also includes a BARC forensic audit report, WhatsApp chats purportedly between Dasgupta and Goswami, and statements of 59 persons, including former council employees and cable operators. Moreover, supplementary charge sheet was filed against Dasgupta, former BARC COO Romil Ramgarhia and Republic Media Network CEO Vikas Khanchandani.

India launched an airstrike on Balakot in Pakistan after an attack on CRPF personnel at Pulwama. This top-secret information was revealed in a WhatsApp chat between Arnab Goswami and Partho Dasgupta, former CEO of BARC, which happens to be a very serious matter. Earlier, a delegation led by Congress general secretary and spokesperson Sachin Sawant called on Home Minister Anil Deshmukh to demand Goswami's arrest. During the meeting, he conveyed the same to the Home Minister further adding that Arnab Goswami's act is a violation of office secrecy under the Office Secrets Act, 1923, Section-5 (Official Secrets Act, 1923, Sec. 5).
