The Thane Crime Branch on Wednesday detained Uday Kotwal, president of the Badlapur school, and Tushar Apte, secretary. School janitor Akshay Shinde, who was recently caught by the police, had sexually assaulted two four-year-old girls in the private school’s bathroom. Thane Police Commissioner Ashutosh Dumbre informed that they have been detained. Both have been handed over to the SIT team for further investigation.
A case under the relevant section of POCSO was registered against Badlapur school officials for not reporting the incident of sexual harassment of minor girls. SIT has filed two charge sheets in this case.
Kotwal and Apte had filed a pre-arrest bail petition in the Bombay High Court, however the latter rejected that petition. The two were evading the SIT and Crime Branch police for many days.
What Happened?
Accused Janitor Akshay Shinde was arrested on August 17 for allegedly sexually molesting two girls, aged four and five, in a washroom in a private school of Badlapur. After massive protests at Badlapur station, a fast-track court trial was ordered on August 20.
After allegations of delay in FIR registration and police negligence, subsequently, an SIT was formed to investigate the case. On Monday, September 23, 2024, Shinde snatched a police officer’s gun and opened fire injuring one police officer. In the retaliatory firing, the accused died of critical injuries, according to the police.
