A fun beach trip in Chennai ended in tragedy when a young intern from Maharashtra lost her life and another went missing after being swept away by strong waves, as per the report by the Indian Express.

A group of 26 interns, working with Cognizant, had gone to Golden Beach along East Coast Road during their training period in Chennai. The interns are originally from Maharashtra and were staying in the city for official training.

During the outing, three of them entered the sea, reportedly to take selfies. Suddenly, powerful waves estimated to be 10 to 15 feet high surged and pulled them into deeper waters.

One of them, Mayuri Harishchandra Chaudhary (22), from Bhandara district in Maharashtra, was rescued and rushed to a hospital but was declared dead.

Another intern, Jai Patil (24), from Jalgaon district, remains missing. Search operations are still underway.

The third intern, Raj Kedari, from Pune, was rescued in time and is currently stable.

Police teams, fire and rescue services, and local fishermen are continuing efforts to locate the missing intern. Drones and boats are being used in the search operation.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has spoken with Tamil Nadu authorities and assured full support to the affected families.
