Holi 2024: Nearly 350 Motorists Booked For Drink & Drive Cases

The Mumbai traffic police authorities said they had carried out consistent checks for nine hours at a stretch from 8 am to 5 pm.

To ensure safety on the occasion of the Holi, which was celebrated on March 25, the Mumbai Traffic Police conducted a special drive to keep a check on the roads.

During this initiative, as many as 340 motorists were booked by the police for drink and driving across Mumbai city and Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

As per data revealed by the Mumbai traffic police, the department has booked 124 motorists for the same offence throughout the day. Meanwhile, Thane police booked 173 people whereas 43 cases have been registered in Navi Mumbai.

Apart from this, 4,593 were fined for driving without helmet, and 429 others for triple-seat riding in Mumbai.

In Thane, 663 were fined for triple-seat riding, and 1,542 for riding without helmets. The Thane police also booked 365 auto-rickshaw drivers for ferrying passengers more than the permissible limit.

In Thane, 1,500 motorcyclists were challaned for riding without helmet and 650 for riding triple seat on two-wheelers. Around 365 cases of overloading in passenger auto rickshaws were also reported till 6 pm.

As for Navi Mumbai, 106 drunk driving cases were filed from March 21 till March 25. Last year, 73 motorists had been booked by Mumbai traffic police on the occasion of Rang Panchami.
