An advocate,  a resident of Khar West has suffered a serious internal head injury and is battling for her life after a drunk businessman's speeding car hit hers from behind on Bandra-Worli Sea Link on Sunday, October 3.

The incident is said to have taken place at around 1.30 AM on the stretch of Bandra-Worli Sea Link when the Malad-based businessman's car hit the car of the advocate. The accused, identified as Sachin Kharatmal, was arrested by a police patrol team. The advocate, identified as Saloni Lakhiya, has suffered severe head injuries and battling for her life in Hinduja Hospital. 

The police, while addressing the situation, said that Kharatmal, a Malad west resident, was driving his BMW car in a drunk state. His speeding car rammed into her Celrio car, following which her head banged on the steering wheel. He was returning home with his sister and brother-in-law. Due to the accident, his sister has fractured her hand, while her brother-in-law was left unhurt.

A suo moto FIR for rash driving, causing severe injury, and drunk driving under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and MV Act was registered against the accused by the Assistant sub-inspector, Dilip Sawant.

It was not a case of hit-and-run since the accused was arrested from the spot, said the police. The accused was granted bail on Sunday, October 3.
