Bombay High Court on Friday granted bail to actor Karan Oberoi in connection with the rape and extortion case filed against him. The bail was granted on a surety of ₹50,000. Oberoi approached the HC after his bail plea was rejected by a sessions court on May 15 in Mumbai.

After Karan Oberoi’s arrest on May 5 over a complaint registered by a 34-year-old woman, the actor was sent to judicial custody by the Metropolitan Magistrate court. In her complaint, the woman accused Oberoi of raping her on the pretext of marriage and blackmailing her.

Earlier on May 25, the woman claimed that she was attacked by two persons riding a motorcycle who threatened to throw acid on her face. Later, the woman registered a second FIR against the actor to deny him bail in the case. After investigation, the police discovered that the assault was false and staged by her.

In the bail plea, Oberoi has stated that he never committed to marry the woman who was in a relationship with the actor. Oberoi claimed that the woman filed the second FIR on “fabricated grounds” and by “staging an attack” to deny him bail.
