A Twitter user recently posted a photo of two female police officers riding a scooter without helmets on Saturday, April 8, despite Mumbai's law requiring all two-wheeler riders and pillion riders to wear them mandatorily.

The tweet quickly gained traction with hundreds of likes while many calling for Mumbai police's accountability on traffic safety.

Under Mumbai's traffic safety law, both the driver and pillion rider can be fined INR 500 each for not wearing helmets, and repeat offenders may have their driving privileges suspended for three months. When the Mumbai traffic police saw the tweet, they asked the user for the location of the photo, which was provided. The police stated that they have shared the information with a senior official of the Matunga traffic division for appropriate action.

The photo clearly shows the licence plate of the police scooter, which could lead to an e-challan being issued. However, some Twitter users questioned why the police required the location from citizens to issue fines. Besides, another netizen also shared a picture of a policeman who was seen without helmet on bike near Oberoi mall in Goregaon (east) on April 7.

This incident highlights the need for all citizens, including law enforcement, to follow traffic safety guidelines.
