Amid the coronavirus pandemic, everyone barring the essential employees have been directed to stay at home. The health workers and police personnel have been on the frontline in the battle against coronavirus. The police patrol the streets 24x7 to ensure lockdown regulations are being followed properly and while doing their duty they put their lives at risk.

By April 17, 23 Maharashtra police officers had contracted the virus. However, within the next few hours, on April 18, the tally of police officers that tested positive reached 29, raising a question about the safety of the people are ensuring our safety.

Of the total police officers that have contracted coronavirus, 65 per cent are Mumbai Police officers. As of April 15, 2020, seven officials from Mumbai Police were infected, and a day later, i.e. on April 16, 2020, it was reported that 15 officials were infected.

On Wednesday, the police officer posted at Juhu Police Station tested positive and after which, his residential building in Bandra was sealed. Other than that, a police sub-inspector at Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Marg Police Station was tested positive and his building was sealed as well. The police officer was posted Special Branch 1 and lives with two of his colleagues at the RK Road Police Colony.

Two days back, one of the police officers contracted the virus. Following which, close to 20 police officers from Dongri Police Station and JJ Marg Police Station have been sent to private hotels for isolation.

However, despite the police officers testing positive at these places, new officers have been posted to ensure public safety.

It is also suspected one of the police officers in Byculla may also be positive for the virus and as per protocol, the respective building has also been sealed. As of Thursday, six residential areas including RK Marg police station building and the Byculla police colony have been sealed so far.
