Amidst the ongoing lockdown in Maharashtra, the state police department has registered 93,000 cases under Section 188 and arrested 18,466 people who violated the lockdown rules. Further, the report states that the Police have also collected fine worth Rs 3.39 crore. A total of 52,555 vehicles have been confiscated from people who left their homes during the lockdown, without no proper reasons.

As of Tuesday, May 5, 2020, the number of coronavirus cases in Maharashtra has crossed 15,000 and the count has been increasing exponentially, over the last few days. Strict guidelines have been issued in red zones and containment zones where people have been asked to stay home and maintain social distancing, thereby respecting the rules imposed by the government. 

Data released by the police department also reveals that a total of 84,002 calls were made on the emergency number - 100. Moreover, 633 people who were violating the norms were quarantined and are being investigated. Further, in this period, 13 illegal vehicles have been booked and as many as 15 cases of visa violations have been registered across the state by citizens attending Tablighi jamaat gatherings in Delhi under the guise of tourist visas. Fine of Rs 3 crore 39 lakh has been imposed for various offences committed in this time frame.

The cases of coronavirus infection in the police department have also seen a rise and three police officers from Mumbai lost their lives due to the infection. Reports state that the virus has infected 442 policemen in the state, with Mumbai Police having the highest number of personnel. Control rooms have been set up for the police to take immediate action if they notice any symptoms related to the infection. Two hospitals in Mumbai have been reserved for the treatment of police officers.

As of May 5, 2020, a total of 4785 thousand relief camps have been arranged in the state and approximately 4.97 lakh people have been accommodated.
