Travelling in not-so-new auto rickshaws and cabs isn't highly recommended because according to the Regional Transport Authority (RTO) rules, the lifespan of an auto rickshaw is 15-years and must be scrapped once it crosses its the permissible limit. Yet, there are many auto rickshaws and taxis that are still running on Mumbai roads with the roads not being the smoothest (that's a story for another day).
Recently, Dahisar's RTO department filed a complaint with Borivali's MHB police station against auto driver Dinesh Devalkar for riding an age-old auto rickshaw.
On Wednesday, around 1:00 pm, RTO officer Sachin Aayrekar started checking auto rickshaws in Dahisar. When he saw Devalkar riding an old auto rickshaw, he asked him to show his papers. But, Devalkar had no papers to show. Further interrogation revealed that Devalkar had registered his auto rickshaw in 2002 and was running since then despite it crossed the permissible limit of 15-years.
