On April 19, 2023, Mumbai police found a dead body of a 2-year-old boy in a plastic bag and upon investigation they found that the father had killed his son for his girlfriend. 

According to Shahu Nagar police,a 22-year-old Rehmat Shaukat Ali Ansari strangulated his son in Hyatt Compound in Mahim. He then wrapped the body in a plastic sheet and dumbed it in mangroves nearby. His 20-year-old girlfriend had agreed to marry him only if he got rid of his wife and son, as per the police official.

Manoj Patil, deputy commissioner of police, Zone V told Hindustan Times that they traced the accused when he was planning to flee to Uttar Pradesh. 


Patil said that Rehmat was having an affair with one of his relatives for the past 3 years. He wanted to marry her but she told him to get rid of her wife and son. Likewise, on Tuesday night, he took Asad to a nearby empty shop owned by the family and allegedly strangulated the child. He then wrapped the body in white polythene and around 10:45 pm, he dumped the body in the river, and returned home.

Police have booked him under sections 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) and 364 (kidnapping or abducting in order to murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
