Filmmaker Santosh Gupta's wife and daughter, on Thursday, April 8, 2021, died by suicide by setting themselves on fire. The shocking incident was reported in Mumbai

It is said that Asmita Gupta and Shrishti Gupta died at their home in Andheri's DN Nagar area, whereby they locked themselves in a room in their apartment and set themselves on fire. Upon knowing the same, the neighbours called the fire department after some people noted the smoke coming from the room. 

The rescue team and fire brigade along with Mumbai Police officials rushed to the spot, and it is said that the duo was seen surrounded by flames. They were critically injured and were taken to the hospital for treatment. However, Asmita was declared dead on arrival. 

Srishti was moved to the National Burn Center in Airoli where it was reported that she suffered 70 per cent burns.

Investigation revealed that Asmita was 55 years old and was suffering from chronic kidney ailments. She took this extreme step as she was tired of battling the same. Meanwhile, the daughter is said to have taken the step after observing her mother suffer from the ailment.

Santosh Gupta is known for his low budget films and had worked on films like Farar, Romi the Hero and 'Aaj Ki Aurat.
