After more than 12 hours of questioning at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Mumbai, Anil Deshmukh, former Maharashtra home minister, was arrested  in connection with a money laundering case in the early hours of Tuesday, November 2.

Today, November 2, Deshmukh will oppose his remand before the court, according to the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader’s lawyer.

For the first time, Anil Deshmukh appeared before ED yesterday after skipping multiple summons for the last four months. Mumbai's top cop Param Bir Singh had alleged 100 crore extortion and money laundering on him.

However, in a video statement on Monday, the 71-year-old NCP leader had said: "All allegations against me are false."

"Today, I have presented myself before the Enforcement Directorate. Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh made false allegations against me. Where is he today? As per media reports, he has left the country," Deshmukh said in a video.

He also took to Twitter on Monday stating that in spite of the High Court providing him with the liberty to go to the Special Court by using his constitutional rights, today he is going to the ED’s office and offering his complete cooperation in the investigation.

He also posted a video on Twitter highlighting that the CBI, ED investigation, supposed harassment against him and his family members have aggrieved him.

On Friday, the Bombay High Court rejected Deshmukh’s petition against the ED’s summons in addition to excluding the agency from nabbing him even when it stated that he was free to apply for anticipatory bail.
