A case has been filed against Kishori Pednekar, the former mayor of Mumbai, and three other individuals for allegedly acquiring flats that were built under a state government scheme. The flats, which were built by the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) in the suburban area of Worli, were reportedly acquired by the mayor and the three other individuals from a private firm.

According to reports, the flats were originally allotted to a person named Gangaram Boga, but the mayor allegedly claimed it as her property during the 2017 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls. The case has been filed under section 420 of the Indian penal code, which pertains to cheating and dishonesty, and a police complaint has been filed against the individuals, but no arrests have been made yet.

BJP leader Kirit Somaiya had registered a PIL in the Bombay High Court (HC) in 2020. According to his claims, Kish Corporate Services had reported illegally occupied properties as their address. The three other people named in the case are Prashant Gavas, Shaila Gavas, and Girish Revankar, who are all the directors of the company.

Mayor Pednekar, who is a Shiv Sena leader and had been the mayor of Mumbai since November 2019, responded to the case by saying "Everyone is aware of what is happening here and we will fight against it.", the Indian Express Reported.

The alleged acquisition of the flats built under the state government scheme has raised serious questions about the integrity of those involved and the transparency of the allocation process. The case is currently under investigation and further details are expected to be revealed as the legal proceedings unfold.
