Mumbai police on Monday revealed that four people were arrested for allegedly assaulting Times Now Senior Journalist Hermon Gomes. The police informed that the accused were arrested on Sunday night from South Mumbai’s Tardeo area.

Earlier, Gomes was attacked near his residence in Gamdevi area around 1:30 AM in the night on Saturday and survived a life-threatening attack after six people indulged into an argument with the journalist. Gomes informed that they also beat up his friend.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Dnyaneshwar Chavan informed that the clash might have happened in the heat of the moment following the argument. However, the police are trying to investigate more into the same. The accused do not have any criminal background, the officer added.

According to the complaint filed by Herman Gomes, the accused were armed with a knuckle duster. Gamdevi police registered a case under section 143 (Unlawful Assembly), 147 (Rioting), 324 (Voluntary causing hurt by dangerous weapons) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The attack was condemned by journalist associations in the city and demanded immediate action on the matter while Mumbai Press Club termed attack on Herman Gomes a “dastardly act”.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Minister of State (MoS) for Home Ranjit Patil took a note of the same and promised necessary action.
