On Saturday, February 6, in substantial development, a special court accepted the report by CBI clearing gangster Chhota Rajan of charges which includes an attempt to murder.

According to reports, Chhota Rajan was earlier engulfed in an alleged case of attempt to murder of a journalist who used to cover crime beat back in the year 1997. However, the CBI stated that there is no evidence to connect Chotta Rajan to the said incident where two unknown people fired shots at crime reporter Baljeet Parmar in Mumbai. Moreover, the CBI stated that Parmar remained out of touch during the entire trial.

Back in 1997, a complaint was registered at the Antop Hill police which stated that two unknown people fired shots at the journalist from a revolver intending to kill him. Parmar was waiting for his driver outside a building when the incident took place on June 12, 1997. Meanwhile, the police had arrested four men and filed a charge sheet against them while naming Rajan and another man, named Rohit Varma, as the men claimed that the crime was committed at Rajan’s behest.

However, the judge in his order stated, "On perusal of the available material, there is the only reference in the FIR against him (Chhota Rajan) that previously one Dalbeer Singh received threats from Chhota Rajan. Except this, there is no material to connect the accused in this crime."

Furthermore, the court noted that the CBI investigating officer did not find any link to connect the accused with the said crime and was unable to collect crucial proof with regards to the case.
