Maharashtra RPI (A) General Secretary Rajabhau Sarwade on Monday announced the suspension of party’s state unit Vice President Deepak Nikalje.

Nikalje, brother of the infamous Chhota Rajan, was suspended from the Republican Party of India (A) on the orders of party chief Ramdas Athawale.

In a press statement, Sarwade informed that the party had received several complaints against Deepak Nikalje. Along with this, many complaints with serious allegations were also made against Nikalje.

There were many complaints against Deepak Nikalje with serious allegations. After which, Nikalje was suspended from the party,” said RPI (A).

Minister of State (MoS) Ramdas Athawale fielded Chhota Rajan’s brother – Deepak Nikalje – in the recently concluded assembly elections in Maharashtra on RPI (A) ticket. Nikalje was fielded from Phaltan assembly constituency in the state. However, Nikalje was defeated in the assembly polls.

RPI (A) contested the assembly elections as a part of the NDA alliance led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). After Nikalje was named in the RPI's candidate list, there was huge ruckus over the same. According to the reports, Nikalje wanted to contest the assembly elections from the Chembur assembly constituency. However, Nikalje was fielded from Phaltan constituency in Maharashtra.
