A couple from Ghatkopar died on Holi in 2023. The cause of death was unclear. But in the postmortem report of Rajawadi hospital, it has been found that death was due to suffocation. However, the cause of suffocation has not been clarified in the report, Pantnagar police said.

On March 8, 2023, the bodies of Tina Shah (38) and her husband Deepak (44) were found naked in the bathroom of their apartment in the Kukreja Palace building in Ghatkopar East. The couple had just returned from a Holi party in Juhu. They were declared brought dead at Rajawadi hospital and later their body was sent for postmortem and the body was sent to Kalina Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for further analysis.

Police declined to officially reveal the primary cause of death, but sources said they suspected that they died due to a gas leak from a bathroom geyser or consumption of cannabis during a Holi party. FSL sent the report back to Rajawadi Hospital's post-mortem department in August 2023 to determine the cause of death. A year later, the hospital released its final report, which stated that the death was due to suffocation.

Interestingly, on the same day that the Shah couple died, similar cases were reported in Lucknow and Delhi, where people died after Holi celebrations. In these cases, the bodies were found in the bathroom and the relevant police departments said the death was due to carbon monoxide asphyxiation caused by a gas leak from the bathroom geyser.

Police officials in Pant Nagar said on Sunday that they have returned the report to Rajawadi Hospital and requested an explanation regarding the cause of suffocation.
