HC orders Netflix to provide details of remaining witnesses against screening of documentary on Indrani Mukerjea

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) approached the High Court on Wednesday after a special court rejected its plea to stay a documentary based on Indrani Mukerjea, the main accused in the Sheena Bora murder case and Sheena's mother. Taking note of this, the court has ordered Netflix to provide information about the remaining witnesses in the case, which is part of the documentary. A bench of Justice Revathi Dere and Justice Manjusha Deshpande passed the above order after briefly hearing the CBI plea. At this time, on the order of the court, a glimpse of the documentary was shown to the court through tape.


Earlier, documentary makers were required to consult the investigating agency at least once, the CBI did not want to ban the screening of the documentary outright. However, CBI lawyer Sriram Shirsat demanded the court to stop the screening of the documentary until the case is settled. Shirsat also claimed that the documentary may affect the testimony of the remaining witnesses in the case. Also, the CBI told the court that Indrani's bail conditions are being violated and that they are considering applying for cancellation of her bail.

On the other hand, all the details of this matter, the information is already publicly available. Indrani herself has written a book. Similarly, it is difficult to predict how much longer the trial will last. Therefore, senior lawyer Ravi Kadam on behalf of Netflix demanded that the screening of the documentary should not be suspended.
