Mumbai Police arrested Ajay Arun Dabhade, 38, on Wednesday, July 23, for allegedly trying to kill his wife after a fight over dinner. The incident took place on July 3 at their home in Trombay Koliwada.
According to police, the fight began when Swati Dabhade, 37, told her husband that there was no chicken or Chinese food left. The argument escalated, and he hit her on the head with a rod. Swati was taken to Shatabdi Hospital for treatment. Her condition is now stable.
Swati later gave a statement to the police. She said her husband had been forcing her to withdraw a dowry harassment complaint that she had filed earlier. On June 1, Swati had approached the police, accusing her in-laws and husband of pressuring her for dowry.
She told officers that her husband was angry because she did not take back the case. She also said he demanded INR 5 lakh from her father to invest in his money-lending business.
Ajay Dabhade has been booked under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita for several offences, including attempt to murder, causing pain, assault, and common intention. The investigation is ongoing. Police have also charged Dabhade’s mother for helping her son during the attack.
