After Underworld Don and gangster Ravi Pujari was arrested by the Senegalese authorities in January, the criminal is claiming to be Anthony Fernandes and not Ravi Pujari. The criminal is trying to escape the justice by making claims and his lawyers have already written to the Senegalese authorities that Pujari is a Burkina Faso citizen and is named Anthony Fernandes.
Whereas, on the other hand, the External Affairs Ministry has been coordinating to extradite Ravi Pujari and now will be trying to prove his identity. The Ministry had earlier sent the databases of his criminal records and gang-related activities to the Indian embassy in Senegal.
The file consists of details of the 49 charges registered against him and 13 red-corner notices issued by Interpol to the Senegal authorities. Additionally, to prove his identity, the Karnataka and Mumbai Police have decided to submit DNA samples of his family members. His sisters, Jayalaxmi Salian and Naina Pujari, who live in Delhi, are likely to provide DNA samples.
Last year, JNU student Umar Khalid, student activist Shehla Rashid, along with Jignesh Mewani had allegedly received death threats from the gangster.
The Underworld Don was said to be under hiding at Australia but the South African agencies had received the information that he was taking refuge at Burkina Faso.
