As per reports, the transport department of Mumbai has launched a special campaign against vehicles with black glasses with the traffic police taking action against 1,882 vehicles in the city. Now that the law is in place, the Supreme Court has made fresh suggestions, which has given more impetus to the action taken by the police.

So far, the police were subjected to loopholes in the law while taking action against the vehicle owners who fitted a 'black film' in their cars. So the scale of the action was minimal. Different shades of black films have been applied to the glass by many vehicle owners in the city with the numbers increasing day by day. The traffic police initiated punitive action against such vehicle owners under the Motor Vehicle Act stating that the vehicle glass must be transparent. Therefore, according to the court order, it is an offence to put 'black film' of any intensity on vehicles.

The traffic police launched this special operation against these vehicles between October 12 and October 18. During this operation, the police have taken action against 1,882 vehicles which were travelling without the black glass. As per reports, some MPs are said to have faced police action as well.
