Chetan Singh Chaudhary, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable arrested for allegedly opening indiscriminate fire on the Jaipur–Mumbai Express and killing his superior along with three passengers, has once again applied for bail, this time citing mental illness. Notably, Chetan Singh is currently being tried in the Dindoshi court and has applied for bail while the case is ongoing.

Chetan Singh is currently lodged in Thane jail. In his bail application, he has claimed that he is delusional. He is also suffering from mental illness and does not remember anything about the crime. Chetan Singh has also claimed in his bail application that he suffers from mental disorders and is partially mentally ill. He has also given other reasons for seeking bail. Accordingly, it has been claimed that a chargesheet has been filed in this case and there is no need to keep him in custody.

Meanwhile, Chetan Singh's bail application was rejected by the court in December 2023. Chetan Singh is alleged to have opened indiscriminate fire on the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Express near Palghar railway station on July 31, 2023. He is being tried for shooting dead his senior colleague, Assistant Sub-Inspector Tika Ram Meena, and three passengers.
