It has been twenty days since the murder of politician Baba Siddique, yet the main suspects are still evading capture. Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch is actively searching for the alleged shooter, Shivkumar Gautam, and two key associates, Zeeshan Akhtar and Shubham Lonkar, believed to be involved in the crime. To strengthen their search, the Crime Branch has deployed multiple teams across Punjab, Haryana, and near the Nepal border, broadening their efforts to track down these suspects.
Arrests Made and Suspected Links
So far, the Crime Branch has arrested 15 individuals connected to the case, including Sujit Singh, who is considered a significant figure in the investigation. However, the motive for Siddique’s murder remains unknown. Joint Commissioner of Police for the Crime Branch, Lakhmi Gautam, stated that investigators are exploring various angles and expect to determine a motive as inquiries continue. The incident occurred on October 12, and shortly afterward, suspicions arose of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang’s involvement. The arrest of Sujit Singh has further reinforced this theory, with preliminary evidence suggesting that Siddique may have been killed as part of a contract killing organized through the Bishnoi gang. While there is strong indication of the gang’s role, the actual reason behind Siddique’s murder remains undisclosed.
Fatal Shooting
Baba Siddique, a well-known figure in Mumbai's political landscape, was tragically shot and killed on October 12. Known for his active role in local governance and community development, Siddique’s death has sent shockwaves through the city. The fatal shooting occurred under mysterious circumstances, leaving both his family and the public grappling for answers. His untimely death has highlighted growing concerns about crime and safety, particularly as Siddique had been engaged in various civic projects that were significant to local residents. Authorities are under mounting pressure to resolve the case swiftly and bring those responsible to justice.
Possible SRA Connection
In the meantime, Siddique’s son, Zeeshan Siddique, has hinted that his father’s death may have ties to a Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) dispute. Despite his statements, the Crime Branch has reported finding no evidence to substantiate this angle. Investigators continue to probe various possibilities, but until the main suspects—Gautam, Lonkar, and Akhtar—are captured, the motive remains speculative. As the investigation advances, authorities face challenges in solving the case without the key suspects. The Crime Branch remains focused on resolving these missing links, with officials hopeful that the arrests of the main culprits will clarify the motive and bring closure to the case.
