A 30-year-old man was crushed to death by a paver block in Dadar East on Wednesday. The friend of the murdered person was also injured in the assault by the accused. Matunga police have registered a case of murder in this case and the accused has been arrested.


Accused Raju Devlekar (50) was sleeping on the footpath near Dadar railway station. At that time, Akash Thakur (30) and Anil Kumar Gupta (35) asked the sleeping Devlekar about tea and water. At that time Devlekar got angry and abused Thakur and Gupta. Devlekar then picked up a paver block lying nearby and attacked Thakur. He hit Thakur 10 to 12 times on the head with a paver block. After Thakur fell down, he also attacked Gupta with a paver block. Fortunately, he was not seriously injured.

After the incident, Thakur was taken to Lokmanya Tilak Hospital in Sion. Doctors there declared him dead. Matunga police had registered a case of accidental death in this case. Based on Gupta's complaint, a case was registered under Section 302 (murder) and 324 (assault) of IPC. After that accused Devlekar was arrested by Matunga police. Devlekar lives in a slum at Senapati Bapat Marg. Police are investigating further in this matter.
