A 56-year-old man has been taken into custody for allegedly killing his 32-year-old live-in partner and dismembering her body in more than 20 pieces in Mumbai's Mira Road. The accused is currently being questioned by the Naya Nagar police.

The discovery was made when the residents of J-wing in Geeta Aakashdeep Cooperative Housing Society, Geeta Nagar, Phase-7, alerted the authorities about a foul smell coming from the couple's flat. Concerned about the odour, the police promptly arrived at the scene and entered the premises. Inside, they found a dismembered body of a woman.

Upon entering the apartment, the police discovered three buckets filled with blood, along with the presence of wood cutters and a tree cutter machine. The dismembered body parts were stored in the kitchen. According to witnesses, victim's body parts were found in the buckets, while her hair were discovered separately.

The dismembered body parts were stored in the kitchen. It has also been alleged that the body parts were boiled in the cooker. Police have taken the utensils, cutting machines, and tools used in the murder under their possession for further investigation.

The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Saraswati Vaidya, an orphan who had been living with the accused since 2014. Initial investigations indicate that the murder was a result of the escalating arguments between the couple. Neighbours have also reported witnessing frequent fights between them.

The couple, who were the sole occupants of the flat, had been residing there for an estimated period of 2 to 3 years.

The accused, upon realising the discovery of the crime scene, attempted to flee the building. However, he was swiftly apprehended by the police. The authorities believe that the suspect used two cutters, including an electric one, to carry out the act of dismemberment. Disturbingly, certain body parts are currently missing, leading investigators to suspect that the suspect may have disposed of them in different locations.

The police have seized the tools believed to have been used in the crime. They are in the process of registering a case under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code.

This horrifying incident marks the second brutal murder of a woman in the Mira Road neighbourhood within the past two weeks. Just last week, the decapitated body of a woman was found near Uttan Beach.
