A 33-year-old Mumbai businessman has succumbed to injuries sustained in a road accident in Vidyavihar, ten days after a car allegedly driven by a 17-year-old boy rammed into his scooter.
The victim, Dhrumil Patel from Ghatkopar, and his wife were severely injured in the late-night collision near Somaiya College. Both were initially admitted to Rajawadi Hospital and later shifted to a private medical facility as their condition worsened.
Despite intensive treatment, Patel passed away on Sunday. His wife continues to remain in hospital, where her condition is reported to be critical.
Police said the SUV involved in the crash was being driven by a minor without a valid licence. They have registered a case against the minor under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 106 (causing death by negligence), Section 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way), and other relevant provisions. Sections of the Motor Vehicles Act have also been invoked for driving without a valid licence. Following Patel’s death, authorities are expected to add more serious charges to the case.
