Five people were injured when an elevator in an 18-storey residential building in Byculla, Mumbai, suddenly fell from the fourth floor on Wednesday night. The incident took place at Jay Krupa Tower on Ghodapdeo Cross Lane No. 1 around 10 pm.
Preliminary reports suggest that a cable malfunction may have caused the elevator to crash. Emergency teams including the Mumbai Fire Brigade, city police, ambulance services, and BMC staff quickly rushed to the site to carry out rescue operations.
The injured were taken to nearby hospitals, three to JJ Hospital, and one each to Balaji Hospital and Jaslok Hospital. All five were reported to be in stable condition.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident, including whether poor maintenance or technical failure played a role.
