Mumbai Crime Branch arrest drug addict and history sheeter Irfan Memon

Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested Irfan Memon for seeking a ransom of ₹50 lakh from Amin Rozani who runs an online Poker game business from Bandra. As per the reports, police have registered a charge sheet against the accused.

The accused Memon was earlier involved in robberies in Mumbai to aid his addiction, but later he switched to demanding ransom. The police have included more than 18 confessions, WhatsApp chat, video clips, conversations, phone details in their 333-page charge sheet. Further, during an investigation, police also came to know that prior to threatening Rozani, Memon had threatened his relatives by making a ransom call through famous gangster Fahim Machmach.

Who is Irfan Memon?

Memon belongs to an affluent family, but his addiction to drugs changed his rapport with his family, who upon knowing about the addiction, stopped offering financial support. Then he started robbery to buy drugs and cater to the addiction. But the needs increased and Memon then started making ransom calls with the help of famous gangsters.

What’s the story?

Acting on the complaint filed by the Bandra’s social activist Shabnam Sheikh, Bandra police arrested Harish Yadav, Bilal Kutubuddin, Santosh Singh, Rahul Amil Mohammed Shamsul Islam and Zubair Khan for making ransom calls. During an interrogation, Bilal and Jagbir admitted Fahim Machmach gave them the contract of killing Shabnam Sheikh and Rozani. As no other sharpshooters showed interest in involving themselves, he asked Jagbir to curate information of other three businessmen. But when Jagbir got arrested, Memon was given the responsibility.

The police got their hands on CCTV footage which showcased Memon clicking a photo with Rozani’s car. Further, Memon has also been identified as a history-sheeter and is wanted for more than 40 cases. However, he is out on bail.

Memon’s brother Imran and Rozani are very good friends and have been working together. Memon had plans to harass Rozani thinking that it would affect his brother as well. As per recent updates, Rozani still receives ransom call and Police are still investigating to understand the location.
