The incident of a Mumbai doctor losing his hand in a scuffle with a robber while traveling on the Nanded Express caused a stir. The police have taken major action in connection with the incident that took place near Kanjurmarg railway station on June 4 at around 3.50 am. The police have arrested the robber, Saif Chaudhary, and investigation has revealed that he has committed similar thefts in Kerala as well.

Dr. Yogesh Deshmukh (50) and Dr. Deepali Deshmukh (44) were travelling to Latur by LTT-Nanded train along with their nine-year-old daughter. They caught the train from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 3.30 am. The Deshmukh family was going to Latur for a wedding. Deepali was in the middle berth, while her husband Yogesh was resting in the upper berth. After 15 minutes, when the train was between Bhandup and Kanjurmarg stations, a man came near Deepali's berth and pulled the purse that Deepali was carrying on her shoulder. However, Deepali did not let go of the purse.

The thief took Deepali along with the purse to the train door. Hearing the commotion, Yogesh woke up from his sleep and ran to save his wife.

However, the train slowed down near Kanjurmarg. At the same time, the thief snatched the purse and jumped from the train. Due to this, Deepali and Yogesh fell out of the train. Both were injured. Yogesh's hand was also crushed under the wheels of the train. After that, Deepali took Yogesh out of the railway tracks and came out onto the road. There, she stopped a milk tempo and took her husband to a private hospital.

On the other side, Deshmukh's daughter was crying in the train. One of Deepali's colleagues informed the police control room about this. After that, the police dropped their daughter off at Kalyan station. The police searched several places to catch the thief, but they were unable to catch him.

Similar incident in Kerala

Meanwhile, a similar theft incident took place at Kozhikode station in Kerala on August 8. In which a thief robbed a passenger in a running train and fled as soon as the train slowed down. During the struggle with the thief, the passenger fell from the train and was injured. The Kerala police have arrested the accused. The accused's name is Saif Chaudhary.

Thief in GRP custody

After it was revealed that Saif was involved in the incident with the Deshmukh family, the Kerala Police has handed him over to the Mumbai GRP. The police have not yet found Deepali's purse, as per the report by The Times of India.

23 cases registered against Saif

The police said that 23 cases have been registered against Saif Chaudhary. Many cases like snatching purses from women and stealing gold chains have been registered against him. Saif used to beg in Mumbai earlier.

Meanwhile, Yogesh Deshmukh has lost his hand in a scuffle with Saif. He has undergone several surgeries so far. Now efforts are underway to get him a prosthetic hand. Meanwhile, Kurla GRP has registered a case of theft against Saif under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code.
