The High Court has granted bail to a 20-year-old college student from Dombivli, accused of murdering his ailing father. Granting bail, the court cited the student's young age and the need to prevent him from becoming a hardened criminal.

For the past two years, the young man was in jail for the murder of his father. A single bench headed by Justice Milind Jadhav acknowledged the seriousness of the crime committed by the accused, but the circumstances leading to the incident were primarily considered by the single bench while granting him bail. The accused is studying in the second year of management course and despite many difficulties his academic record has been good. His mother works at home. His father was an alcoholic and was bedridden with kidney disease at the time of the incident.

The accused had an argument with his father on the day of the incident i.e. 22nd February 2023 for taking medicine not prescribed by the doctor. It is alleged that as the abuse by the father continued, the accused slit his throat with a kitchen knife. After the incident, the accused locked the house, borrowed one hundred rupees from the neighbor and directly reached the police station and confessed to the crime.

On the other hand, it was claimed on behalf of the police that his actions were serious and that he killed his father coldly, not out of anger. However, this incident was not premeditated, but rather the result of unbearable verbal abuse. Moreover, the accused's lawyer claimed that the accused has been in jail for the last two years and his educational future is in jeopardy due to this incident.
